Italian municipalities face scrutiny over local budgets and spending

Local administrations in Italy are facing scrutiny over financial management and budgetary processes. In Valderice, political opposition has criticized the approval of the 2026-2028 budget, citing an eight-month delay that resulted in the municipality being placed under commissioners for the adoption of the financial instrument. Critics argue the delay is being misrepresented as a strategic choice rather than an administrative failure.

In Sirmione, the approval of the 2025 budget and 2026 budget for the in-house multiservice company, Sirmione Servizi, has drawn attention from the opposition. While the company's sole administrator, Valentina Raimondi, highlighted achievements in urban hygiene, waste management, and digitalization, opposition members pointed out that expenditures for external consultancies have quadrupled since 2023.
