Italian municipalities freeze public transport fares

Local administrations in Carmagnola and Saronno have decided to freeze public transport tariffs, preventing immediate price increases for commuters despite regional inflation adjustments.

In Carmagnola, the municipal government has confirmed that urban transport rates will remain unchanged for the 2026-2027 season. This decision bypasses the new inflation-based adjustments proposed by the Piedmont Mobility Agency. Current rates, including a 1.80 euro single ticket and a 37 euro monthly pass, will stay in effect. Additionally, a school bus service contract has been awarded to Samuele Giordanino for the period between 2026 and 2029, valued at 209,000 euros.

Similarly, Saronno will maintain its current urban transport pricing through the end of 2026. While the Lombardy Region and the TPL Basin Agency have scheduled general price increases starting September 1, 2026, Saronno will use municipal resources to cover the deficit and prevent hikes for residents. The administration intends to review the tariff structure in the coming months to further incentivize long-term subscriptions and continuous use of public transit.
