Italian municipalities implement AI virtual assistants

Municipalities in Italy are adopting artificial intelligence to improve citizen access to public services. In San Benedetto del Tronto, the administration has introduced ‘Zautte’, an AI-based virtual assistant designed to help residents navigate municipal information. The tool can answer queries regarding office hours, identity cards, waste taxes (TARI), and building permits using simple language. Developed internally, the project is currently in a testing phase to refine its accuracy and comprehension.

Similarly, the Municipality of Erice has launched a virtual assistant on its institutional website, managed by Maggioli. This tool allows citizens to seek information 24/7 via smartphones or computers, aiming to reduce the volume of routine telephone inquiries. While these digital assistants provide immediate guidance and orientation, officials emphasize that they are intended to complement, rather than replace, direct contact with municipal offices and traditional administrative procedures.
