Italian municipalities implement new food and environmental protocols

Local administrations in Italy are implementing new environmental and food system protocols. In Turin, the municipal council has approved the renewal of the ‘Atlante del Cibo’ memorandum of understanding for the 2026-2031 period. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between various entities, including the University of Turin, the Polytechnic University of Turin, and the Turin Chamber of Commerce, to analyze and support the regional food system through data sharing and public policy. The renewed agreement expands its network to include the ASL Città di Torino, integrating food and health policies without incurring additional costs for the city.

Meanwhile, Senigallia has officially declared itself a ‘Plastic Free’ municipality following an agreement with the non-profit Plastic Free Onlus. The new measures include a ban on releasing plastic balloons during public events and celebrations. The initiative focuses on environmental education in schools and monitoring illegal landfills. While the agreement does not impose costs on the municipal budget, it establishes a framework for volunteer-led cleaning activities and public information campaigns.
