Italian municipalities implement new housing and urban space initiatives

Local administrations in Italy are implementing new measures to address urban space utilization and public housing needs. In Crotone, the municipal government is repurposing the Piazzale Nettuno area by assigning 34 commercial boxes. A portion of these spaces is being reserved for third-sector organizations registered with the RUNTS to provide headquarters for local associations and promote non-commercial activities. The plan also includes commercial assignments with a focus on operators with disabilities and the promotion of Calabrian craftsmanship.

In another regional development, a new definitive ranking for public residential housing has been released, admitting 1,660 applicants. This follows a trend of managing housing emergencies through social services; data shows that 42% of housing assigned in the previous cycle went to households already supported by social services. Current efforts include the renovation of existing housing stock, such as properties on via Cabrini, to increase availability. Recent rankings also indicate an increase in applications from elderly individuals and single-person households in top priority positions.
