Italian municipalities increase revenue through tax enforcement and traffic fines
The municipality of Como has awarded a 123,000 euro contract to SeTe Srl to combat waste tax (TARI) evasion. The 15-month agreement includes remote support for the tax office and audits covering the years 2021 to 2025. Local officials cited a lack of sufficient personnel within the revenue sector as the primary reason for outsourcing these enforcement activities.
In Bergamo, revenue from Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) fines has increased municipal coffers by 750,000 euros this year. While these zones are officially established for environmental and urban planning purposes, such as reducing pollution and protecting historic centers, the rise in fines has sparked public debate regarding the economic motivations of local authorities.
