Italian municipalities invest in school meal services

Local administrations in Italy are implementing various measures to manage and improve school meal services for students.

In Casamicciola Terme, the municipality has initiated the procurement process for school catering at the Enrico Ibsen Institute for the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 school years. The contract, estimated at 63,000 euros plus VAT, aims to provide approximately 12,600 meals over the two-year period for 35 students and seven staff members. Two candidates have already applied, and the final selection will prioritize qualitative factors such as organic products, environmental sustainability, and catering experience.

In Baronissi, Mayor Anna Petta announced an investment of 20,000 euros to upgrade school canteens. The funds were used to purchase eight industrial dishwashers and new steel cabinets to improve hygiene and efficiency. The meal service for 383 enrolled children is scheduled to begin on September 21, 2026. The municipality also highlighted its support services for families, including pre- and post-school care and school bus services.
