Italian municipalities launch cycle path study and flood‑prevention manhole cleaning projects

The municipality of Fiumicino approved a €6,039 contract with the natural‑science firm Hyla to conduct a Level II Environmental Impact Assessment for the Focene‑Fregene segment of the national Cyclovia Tirrenica. The study will survey habitats, assess botanical and zoological impacts, and support the project's permitting process, aiming to improve sustainable mobility along Rome’s northern coast.

Rome’s public works department has commissioned Acea Ato 2, through a partnership with the municipal waste agency AMA, to clear and inspect roughly 1,000 clogged manholes and grates within 12 weeks. The effort targets flood‑prone neighborhoods such as Centocelle and Flaminio, with the goal of preventing rain‑water overflow during increasingly intense summer thunderstorms.
