Italian municipalities launch mental health and cognitive support initiatives

In Italy, local initiatives are focusing on mental health and cognitive support for the elderly. In Morrovalle, the municipality has renewed its partnership with Ircr Macerata to relaunch ‘Allena. mente’, a cognitive stimulation project for self-sufficient seniors. The program aims to slow cognitive decline and combat loneliness through tailored exercises. Additionally, the ‘Caffè Alzheimer’ will offer social interaction and support for individuals with moderate-to-severe dementia and their families.

In Novara, the municipality and the University of Eastern Piedmont are organizing ‘Lo stigma-mente’ to mark World Mental Health Day. The event seeks to dismantle social and cultural prejudices surrounding mental illness. By integrating clinical knowledge with arts, philosophy, and literature, the initiative aims to promote awareness and inclusion, addressing the isolation and fear often caused by social stigma.
