Italian municipalities partner with third sector for social services

Italian municipalities in Grosseto and Pisa are implementing co-programming initiatives with third-sector organizations to address social needs.

In Grosseto, the local administration has launched a procedure to manage a cold weather emergency. The initiative aims to collaborate with Caritas and other third-sector entities to identify facilities for overnight shelter and establish a structured intervention plan running from December 1 to March 31. The goal is to move toward a shared administration model that integrates institutional resources with the expertise of social organizations.

In Pisa, the municipal government has approved a co-programming path to define the use of a facility on via Contessa Matilde. Funded by nearly 1.4 million euros from the PNRR, the site is designed to support autonomy and independent living for people with disabilities. The facility includes temporary residences and multipurpose spaces intended to serve as “life gyms” where individuals can learn essential daily skills such as household management and time organization.
