Italian municipalities promote culture of giving and organ donation

Various Italian municipalities are implementing initiatives to promote a culture of giving and solidarity. The Municipality of Bollate has joined the ‘Giorno del Dono 2026’ (Day of Giving 2026), a national initiative promoted by the Italian Donation Institute (IID) and sponsored by ANCI. Mayor Carolina Nizzola emphasized that the initiative recognizes volunteerism and the various ways citizens contribute time and skills to build a cohesive community.

In Gallarate, Aido has introduced an informative totem at the registry office to encourage organ, tissue, and cell donation. The project aims to provide clear information to citizens during the issuance or renewal of electronic identity cards, a critical moment for expressing donation preferences. This initiative follows observations that approximately 50% of citizens in Gallarate have expressed opposition to donation, prompting a need for better awareness to ensure decisions are made with full knowledge rather than haste or doubt.
