Italian municipalities push new housing projects to ease crisis

In Alghero, the municipal council highlighted a provisional list of 229 families awaiting public housing, noting that the figure is lower than previously but still reflects widespread residential distress. The council urged faster implementation of stalled projects, including a new contract to complete 22 apartments in Caragol and a definitive‑executive plan for another 22 units in Carabuffas, totaling over 40 new homes. It also suggested allocating part of the 2025 budget surplus to acquire existing dwellings to expand the emergency housing stock.

In Cesena, the council group Cesena Siamo Noi voted for a motion on "solidarity condominiums" promoted by the Green Alliance and the Left. The motion calls for cooperative building models that combine units for young people, seniors, families and those facing housing difficulties, fostering mutual aid and shared services. The group referenced earlier proposals such as Method C, mapping unused properties, and co‑housing initiatives, urging a shift from intent to concrete construction and the use of vacant buildings, senior housing, rent‑to‑own schemes, and public guarantees to address the housing backlog.
