Italian municipalities relaunch school catering services

Municipalities in Italy are preparing to relaunch school catering services for the upcoming academic year. In Chieti, the service is scheduled to resume on September 28. Local authorities have confirmed that meal tariffs for families will remain unchanged. The administration is working with agricultural associations, including Coldiretti, Cia, and Confagricoltura, to prioritize local supply chains and improve food quality.

In another region, the school meal service is set to begin on September 30 following a contract award to a consortium comprising Camst Group and Elior Ristorazione. The new service aims to focus on student well-being, environmental sustainability, and nutritional education. Key initiatives include the use of organic and locally sourced products, the establishment of a nutritional help desk for families and teachers to combat childhood obesity, and improved logistics for schools without on-site kitchens.
