Italian municipalities revamp sports complexes with national funding
In the village of Guardata, Capracotta, a multi‑sport centre is being completed under the "Sport e Periferie" programme of the Department for Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The renovation restores tennis courts, a basketball court, a volleyball court and a skating area that had been out of use for years, creating a modern municipal sports hub. Mayor Candido Paglione said the project aims to provide quality spaces for young people, sports clubs and the community, linking sport to health, social life, tourism and local opportunities.
Meanwhile, Montevago has finished a comprehensive refurbishment of the gymnasium at the Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa school, financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr). The works included seismic strengthening, waterproofing, insulation, façade repairs, new windows, upgraded electrical and lighting systems and a ventilation‑air‑recirculation unit. The modernised facility will be ready for the new school year, offering students a safe and efficient environment for physical activity. Mayor Margherita La Rocca Ruvolo highlighted the importance of the new, modern gym for the town’s youth.
