Italian municipalities update animal welfare and pet regulations

Municipalities in Italy are updating local regulations regarding animal welfare and pet management.

In Sulmona, a commission has unanimously approved a new regulation for a dedicated dog off-leash area. The project, expected to be located between via XXV aprile and via L’Aquila, involves an investment of approximately 11,000 euros for metal fencing. The area will feature a fountain and waste containers, with specific rules regarding capacity and time limits to ensure safety and coexistence.

In Enna, a new 22-article proposal has been approved by the Giunta to update animal protection rules that had not been revised since 2014. The new framework aims to regulate pet ownership, manage stray animals, and promote sterilization and adoption. The regulation aligns with national and regional laws and includes a new table of administrative sanctions. Once finalized, the city plans to collaborate with provincial veterinary services to implement these measures.
