Italian museums host exhibitions on Joseph Beuys and Alzheimer's

Several art exhibitions are opening in Italy, highlighting themes of care, nature, and cognitive health.

In Siena, the Santa Maria della Scala museum has inaugurated ‘Remember Joseph Beuys’. The exhibition, running from September 13 to November 15, 2026, focuses on the radical German artist’s relationship with the environment and his concept of ‘care’ as a collective responsibility. The project utilizes photographs, works, and documents to illustrate Beuys’s actions and his desire to transform artistic thought into concrete experience.

In Prato, Centro Pecci is hosting ‘La rivoluzione siamo noi, Powered by Mamma Mia Museum’ until November 1. Created by Serena Becagli, the project documents the effects of Alzheimer’s through 24 photographs. The exhibition features images of objects rearranged by Becagli’s mother, Antonella Napoli, presenting these instances of dementia-driven change as poetic, artistic acts rather than errors. The exhibition aims to promote accessibility and use art to reframe the experience of the disease.
