Italian music festivals announce new artistic directions

Several Italian music festivals are announcing new directions and programming. The Chigiana International Festival in Siena, under artistic director Nicola Sani, is presenting a season themed around "Islands," exploring a musical archipelago ranging from the Renaissance to experimental contemporary works, including a centenary tribute to Hans Werner Henze.

In Puglia, the Tremiti Music Festival is undergoing a significant restructuring under new artistic director Giuliano Sangiorgi. Scheduled for August 26–28, 2026, the festival will feature sunset performances on the Tremiti Islands, including sets by Sangiorgi, Tiromancino, and Aiello, as well as tributes to Lucio Dalla.

Additionally, the Amiata Music festival is implementing a radical international change in direction at its headquarters in the Monte Amiata region, featuring performers such as Joyce DiDonato and Alice Sara Ott.
