Italian music festivals celebrate Mediterranean culture
Italy is hosting two significant musical festivals centered on Mediterranean themes. In Genoa, the 35th edition of the Festival Musicale del Mediterraneo is scheduled from August 28 to September 23, 2026. Organized by the Echo Art Association, the event features over 20 international artists across 11 locations, focusing on rare and traditional world music. The festival, which has received UNESCO recognition, will open at the Chiostro di Sant’Agostino with a performance by Rwandan artist Dorothée Munyaneza.
In the Vallagarina region, the 10th edition of the Settenovecento classical music festival will explore the Mediterranean as a unifying cultural thread. Organized by the Associazione Filarmonica di Rovereto, the program includes community-based performances in local neighborhoods and gardens during the first two weeks, followed by a concentrated series of events in Rovereto from September 16 to 20. The festival will utilize various historic venues, including the Teatro Zandonai and the Museo della Guerra, to present diverse repertoires ranging from Iberian sounds to Baroque duels.
