Italian music market shows gender gap in FIMI top 100 albums

The latest FIMI/GfK album charts in Italy reveal a significant gender imbalance in the music market. Out of the top 100 best-selling albums this week, women occupy only ten positions. Of these, four are Italian artists: Anna, who is the only female artist in the top ten with two entries, Serena Brancale, Madame, and Annalisa.

International female artists including Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, Madonna, Karol G, and Katy Perry account for the remaining six female positions, though they sit outside the top tier of the rankings. The data suggests the Italian market is heavily dominated by male rappers and trappers, who consistently occupy the highest positions in the generalist charts.
