Italian musical heritage receives new literary and digital focus
Efforts to preserve and promote Italian musical heritage are being highlighted through new literary and digital initiatives.
Ulrico Hoepli Editore is releasing ‘Atlante della musica in Italia’, curated by Luca De Gennaro. The book serves as a guide to the history of Italian song over the last 60 years, tracing significant musical locations from Milan and Turin to Naples and Rome. It includes guided itineraries, addresses, and a playlist to connect historical sites with the artists and genres that defined them.
Simultaneously, the ‘Note condivise’ project, led by Wikimedia Italia with funding from the Chiesa Valdese, aims to digitize historical musical materials. By collaborating with institutions such as the Teatro Regio di Torino, the project seeks to make manuscripts, scores, and opera librettos available online. This initiative focuses on transforming physical archives into open digital resources to ensure that Italy’s musical history is accessible to researchers and the public regardless of geographic or economic constraints.
