Italian musicians honored at cultural events in Matera and Rome

Singer-songwriter Carmen Consoli performed a concert in Matera for Materadio, marking the return of the event to the city after six years. The performance included songs addressing women's rights and the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean. The evening featured a monologue titled “Leonilde,” based on the show “Alienate,” which highlights the stories of women previously held in the Girifalco psychiatric hospital.

In Rome, singer Amara, also known as Erika Mineo, was awarded the Gabriella Ferri Prize 2026 by the Fondazione Musica per Roma. The award, presented during the eighteenth Ottobrata Romana at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, recognizes her ability to explore human contradictions through songwriting. The event included performances by the Orchestra Popolare Italiana, directed by Ambrogio Sparagna, and the Coro Popolare di Anna Rita Colaianni.
