Italian National Association of Magistrates admits error in salary arrears calculation
The Associazione Nazionale Magistrati (ANM) has admitted to an error in its assessment regarding the costs of salary arrears for approximately 11,200 magistrates. This admission follows discrepancies between the association's figures and the official data provided in the government's programmatic budget document.
The controversy stems from recent Council of State rulings that modified the calculation methods for salary adjustments. The government has allocated 979 million euros in a dedicated fund to cover these payments, which include ordinary, accounting, and administrative magistrates, as well as state lawyers.
While initial estimates suggested costs could reach 100,000 euros per individual, the ANM has countered that the actual amounts will be significantly lower. The dispute highlights a tension between the judiciary and the executive branch over the financial implications of judicial rulings regarding retributive pay.
