Italian national parks deploy new wildlife control officers to curb boar damage

The National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni has approved the appointment of 50 new wildlife control officers (selecontrollori) under Directorate No. 535 dated 26 June 2026. Candidates from the 300‑349 ranking must submit required documents, including a valid firearm licence, insurance, and a digital photo, by 15 July 2026 to receive their qualification cards.

In the Sila National Park, authorities have activated selecontrollori to address a growing wild‑boar emergency that threatens agricultural production, local safety and the park’s ecosystem. The move, welcomed by Coldiretti Calabria, was praised by park commissioner Liborio Bloise and highlighted as a key step in the implementation of the extraordinary boar‑containment plan.

Both actions aim to restore balance between wildlife and human activities, protect rural economies and improve safety for residents of the surrounding regions.
