Italian Navy Ship Amerigo Vespucci Arrives in Baltimore

The Italian tall ship Amerigo Vespucci left Genoa on 9 May 2026, crossed the Atlantic in 47 days and arrived in the port of Baltimore on 25 June 2026, opening the North American leg of its World Tour 2026.

During the crossing the vessel set new sailing records, covering 2,899 nautical miles and extending the route to 3,661 nautical miles—the longest voyage for the ship since 1952—with 12 consecutive days under sail.

The tour, announced by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, is part of the celebrations of the United States’ 250th independence anniversary. It is coordinated by Italy’s Ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Culture, Sport and Disability and involves the US Navy. The ship will also take part in SAIL250 events in New York (International Naval Review 250 on 4 July) and Boston.

In Baltimore, Amerigo Vespucci is moored at Tide Point in Locust Point, joining other vessels for the SAIL250 Maryland parade (25 June – 1 July) and a public concert “From Vespucci to America” on 28 June, organized by the Italian Consulate in Philadelphia. Cadets from the Livorno Naval Academy will train aboard as part of their sea‑baptism.
