Italian NGOs launch initiatives to combat youth economic hardship

In Ribera, Sicily, four local professionals—Fania Dimora, Claudia Giglia, Francesca Salvaggio and Noemi Vedelina—organized a public event called “Vedila… Oltre” on 18 May. The gathering in Piazza Verdi attracted about 500 children and aimed to raise awareness of the growing economic insecurity faced by young people. The event featured activities, discussions on responsibility and inclusion, and the unveiling of a new bench equipped with a QR code to promote community reflection on youth poverty.

Separately, the Cooperativa Marianella Garcia marked its 40th anniversary. The cooperative has spent four decades working with minors in socially disadvantaged neighborhoods, providing sustained support that has shaped the futures of entire generations. Both efforts highlight local civil‑society attempts to address economic marginalisation among Italy’s youth.
