Italian Parliament debate over hemp bill sparks 'Fascisti 2.0' clash

During a session of the Chamber of Deputies, members debated a draft law on agricultural development that included measures to support the industrial hemp sector. Deputy Susanna Cherchi presented a document backing hemp enterprises.

Five Star Movement deputy Antonino Iaria invoked the phrase “Fascisti 2.0”, referencing Mussolini’s 1935 hemp cultivation, and accused opponents of blocking the hemp industry. Vice‑president and M5S member Sergio Costa asked Iaria to clarify his remarks, emphasizing that no individual was being singled out. Futuro Nazionale parliamentarian Rossano Sasso responded, defending his party’s right‑wing stance and criticizing the tone of the debate. The exchange also mentioned mockery of former prime minister Giuseppe Conte by a Fratelli d’Italia colleague.

The heated rhetoric highlighted political tensions surrounding the hemp proposal but did not produce an immediate legislative outcome.
