Italian Parliament Demands Timeline for Taranto‑Grottaglie Airport Flights
Members of the centre‑right Fratelli d’Italia party, deputies Dario Iaia and Giovanni Maiorano, submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport asking for a clear update on the process to activate scheduled passenger flights at the Taranto‑Grottaglie (Marcello Arlotta) airport. They noted that the regional government has already allocated more than €9 million for a new passenger terminal and requested information on the study on airport connectivity, the status of negotiations with the Puglia region and Aeroporti di Puglia, and whether the ministry will impose public service charges or convene a working group with ENAC to set a definitive timetable.
The provincial coordinator of the Five Star Movement, Laura Sebastio, criticised centre‑right parliamentarians for voting against an amendment that would have set firm deadlines for the administrative procedure. She said, “Now enough words. Those who truly support opening the airport must show it with an act and a vote,” and accused the opposition of breaking promises to the province of Taranto. Sebastio announced that the M5S will raise the issue again during the debate on the Infrastructure decree.
