Italian Parliament faces criticism over proposed hunting law

A draft hunting bill, dubbed the “DDL caccia” or “DDL sparatutto,” is being debated in the Italian Parliament. Critics argue the legislation favours hunting lobbies and contradicts constitutional provisions that protect biodiversity and ecosystems, warning it could worsen environmental damage and increase wildlife‑related road accidents.

On 3 August, a round‑table organized by the Green Alliance and Left together with LAV was held in Trieste. Animal‑rights groups, environmental organisations and citizens voiced strong opposition, saying the bill would expand hunting activity, weaken safeguards for wildlife and undermine Italy’s biodiversity policies. The participants pledged to keep public attention on the issue and to collaborate on further actions to protect natural habitats.
