Italian Parliament moves to end seasonal time changes

As the seasonal shift to standard time occurs on October 24-25, the Italian Parliament has moved toward potentially ending the biannual clock change. Following an investigation by the X Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, a unanimous conclusion was reached suggesting that the practice of switching between daylight saving and standard time should be superseded.

The initiative follows a petition titled ‘Ora legale per sempre’ (Daylight saving time forever), organized by SIMA and Consumerismo, which gathered nearly 360,000 signatures. The Commission’s findings, which included hearings with electricity grid operators, tourism and commerce organizations, trade unions, and the medical community, aim to prompt the Italian government to present a proposal to the European Union to establish permanent daylight saving time.
