Italian pharmacies launch free cardiovascular screenings for women

A national health campaign titled ‘Cuore in Farmacia’ is offering free cardiovascular screenings for women aged 40 to 60 at participating pharmacies in Italy. The initiative, promoted by Federfarma and Cittadinanzattiva, aims to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death among Italian women, particularly following menopause.

The screening process involves a brief online risk assessment questionnaire and free blood pressure measurement. If risk factors are identified, participants can undergo a telemedicine electrocardiogram (ECG). Participating pharmacies, which join the program voluntarily, are identifiable by campaign posters and also provide educational materials on prevention.

Elena Vecchioni, president of Federfarma Verona, noted that while women are primary users of pharmacy services and often prioritize the health of their families, they frequently neglect their own preventative care. The campaign is available through October 31, and Cittadinanzattiva maintains an updated list of participating locations on its website.
