Italian pharmacists focus on prevention and clinical roles

During World Pharmacists Day celebrations in Rome, the Federation of Italian Pharmacists' Orders (Fofi) emphasized the profession's critical role in prevention and its capacity to respond to challenges within the National Health Service (SSN). Fofi President Andrea Mandelli stated that investing in prevention and healthy lifestyles, particularly for younger generations, is essential for the long-term sustainability of the healthcare system.

Mandelli called for reduced bureaucracy, better integration into healthcare networks, and enhanced digital skills to meet evolving professional demands. He stressed the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration between pharmacists, doctors, and nurses to manage chronic illnesses and improve care quality.

In a related development, a conference in Ferrara marked the official launch of the Care Network Community. The initiative focuses on the role of the clinical pharmacist, a professional capable of monitoring entire therapeutic regimens rather than just individual medications. The project aims to integrate clinical pharmacists into care pathways, specifically addressing complex issues such as polytherapy management, medication reviews, and the transition of care between hospitals and local territories.
