Italian police arrest scammers exploiting elderly in Rome and Lombardy
Carabinieri of the Castel Gandolfo station arrested a 24‑year‑old man from Naples, resident in Latina, after he pretended to be a courier in Rome’s Casal Morena district. He convinced two seniors to hand over €100 and attempted a second fraud on another senior; police seized about €1,200 in illicit proceeds and returned the money to the victims.
In the Lombardy towns of Castel Mella and Ospitaletto, Carabinieri of the Chiari operational unit captured a 19‑year‑old homeless foreigner who posed as a Carabiniere. He lured an elderly pensioner to surrender jewelry, but the scheme unraveled when the victim’s son‑in‑law returned home. The police recovered the entire cache of stolen jewels.
