Gambian 22‑year‑old arrested at Rome’s Palmiro Togliatti station with 7 kg of cannabinoids
A 22‑year‑old man of Gambian origin was detained in flagrante delicto by the Polizia Ferroviaria di Roma. By day he worked as a gardener for a social‑cooperative; by afternoon he managed a drug‑selling spot on the stairs of the Palmiro Togliatti railway station. The arrest followed an investigation triggered by the July 18 murder of an Egyptian citizen at the same station. Police intercepted the suspect near the Ponte Mammolo overpass as he attempted to flee, recovering more than 40 drug‑filled packets. A subsequent search of a room he used in the cooperative yielded 7.2 kg of cannabinoid material (about 46 000 doses, valued at €500 000), packaging supplies and a knife. The Rome Tribunal confirmed the arrest and ordered pre‑trial detention.
