Italian police bust major fraud schemes in rentals and staged accidents

Police in Turin concluded an investigation into a series of online rental scams run by a 19‑year‑old. He posted fake apartment ads, collected about €9,400 in deposits and security fees, and vanished after the payments. Authorities seized the funds and arranged their return to the victims.

In Trani, a judge ordered pre‑trial detention for six suspects—including two Carabinieri, two lawyers and two doctors—over a coordinated network that staged traffic accidents to claim insurance payouts. The scheme, active from late 2024 to early 2025, is estimated to have generated over €100,000 in illicit gains, with dozens of additional individuals under investigation.

Both cases illustrate a broader crackdown by Italian law‑enforcement agencies on fraudulent activities that exploit victims through fake property listings and fabricated road incidents.
