Naples police seize AK‑47 and arrest suspects after Montesanto shooting
Police operations in Naples' Montesanto district uncovered a concealed AK‑47 and led to the arrest of a 38‑year‑old man holding an unregistered 9 mm pistol. The seizure was part of broader checks after a shooting incident that had drawn national attention.
Investigators are now focusing on individuals who allegedly protected and hidden the Kalashnikov, describing the weapon as an "instrument of power, evocative of force" used to assert control over territory. Several suspects, including Emanuele Iaccarino, have been detained while authorities continue to identify additional accomplices.
The incident prompted a meeting on 8 July between Interior Minister Matteo Piantedoni, magistrates and local officials to discuss strategies for combating armed criminality in the city.
