Italian police crackdown on illegal immigration with arrests

Border police in Bardonecchia, acting together with the Turin police headquarters, dismantled a human‑trafficking network operating through the Frejus tunnel in the Alps. The operation identified 928 people and inspected 185 vehicles, resulting in the arrest of two traffickers and the indictment of a third individual involved in logistics. Vehicles and equipment used in the illegal transports were seized.

In the province of Novara, the local police office reported 99 expulsions of irregular migrants during the first half of 2026. Ten individuals were escorted directly to the border, while fourteen were placed in repatriation centers pending removal. The expulsions were carried out following thorough checks of each person's documentation and legal status.
