Italy Police dismantle online child exploitation network

Italian authorities have conducted a major operation, dubbed ‘Sweet Strip’, to combat the production and distribution of child pornography. The investigation, coordinated by the Rome Prosecutor's Office, resulted in the arrest of seven individuals and the reporting of 23 others.

The probe identified 30 individuals across various Italian locations. Law enforcement seized hundreds of gigabytes of videos depicting violent abuse of minors, 60 digital storage devices, and 895 grams of marijuana from a residence in Rome.

The investigation was triggered by a mother reporting that her 14-year-old daughter was lured on an instant messaging platform to participate in an erotic game called the ‘Omegle Game’. This online game involved adults assigning points to minors for performing sexually explicit acts during video chats.

To access these channels, participants required an invitation link and were required to make payments via electronic means or cryptocurrency. Investigators also identified a secondary paid channel known as ‘Lumaca’ used for the systematic exchange of illicit material.
