Italian police expose online travel and broker fraud schemes
The Italian State Police identified a woman who posted fake travel offers on social media, advertising weekend trips to a major European capital for €180. After a young provincial resident paid an advance of half the price, no tickets were issued and the fraudster’s contact number was disconnected.
In a separate case, Carabinieri in Rieti arrested a 22‑year‑old from Turin who pretended to be an online broker. He convinced a 45‑year‑old victim to transfer €31,000 through a fictitious investment platform between January and March. The investigation traced the bank transfers and led to a formal complaint to the public prosecutor. Both incidents prompted authorities to warn the public to verify online offers and report suspicious activity promptly.
