Italian police expose two separate fraud scams targeting citizens

In Viadana, a 60‑year‑old resident was duped by a caller posing as a Carabiniere and transferred €14,000 to an account supplied during the call. The investigation traced the fraud to a 36‑year‑old man from Avellino, who has been charged with fraud. The victim realized the deception after contacting emergency number 112, prompting Carabinieri to arrest the suspect.

In Udine, Carabinieri arrested a 19‑year‑old from outside the region for staging vehicle collisions using the so‑called “mirror” technique. The young offender allegedly forced motorists to stop after a simulated impact and demanded immediate cash payments. CCTV footage and victim statements allowed authorities to identify and detain the suspect, who has also been referred to the judiciary.

Both cases illustrate coordinated efforts by Italian police to combat fraud targeting motorists and savers.
