Italian police investigate robbery in Lecce and insurance fraud in Senigallia

In Lecce, police arrested two young men, 23‑year‑old M. B. and 22‑year‑old A. C., on suspicion of attempting to rob an elderly woman near Porta San Biagio on 5 July. The victim was rescued after a passerby and a volunteer Red Cross officer intervened, forcing one suspect to flee. Investigators used nearby bar CCTV footage to identify the suspects and seized material for further inquiry.

In Senigallia, Carabinieri uncovered a telephone‑based insurance scam run by a 25‑year‑old woman from outside the region. She persuaded a 50‑year‑old local man to pay €400 for a fictitious auto‑insurance policy, using a well‑known insurer’s name. The promised coverage was never provided. The woman has been detained and charged, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb fraud against consumers.
