Catania’s Carcagnusi mafia clan targeted in drug raids, dozens arrested nationwide
Italian police carried out a series of anti‑drug operations across the country. In Catania, the mobile squad executed precautionary custody orders against ten alleged members of the Carcagnusi clan, a Cosa Nostra affiliate, following earlier arrests of twenty suspects on 8 June. The investigation links the group to large‑scale drug trafficking, possession of war‑type weapons, attempted murder and other mafioso‑related crimes.
Other unrelated arrests were made in the same period: a 30‑year‑old was caught with cocaine in a Modena park; two men were detained in Milan with marijuana, cocaine, hashish and cash; a 15‑year‑old in Battipaglia was seized with cocaine, crack, amphetamine, hashish and a karambit knife; an Albanian delivery driver was stopped in Castano with kilograms of hashish, marijuana and cocaine; and a married couple in Brescia were found with cocaine, hashish and €1,400 in cash inside a public‑housing flat.
All suspects remain presumed innocent pending trial.
