Prefect Greco honors two Italian police officers for off‑duty rescues
Prefect of Pesaro and Urbino, Emanuela Saveria Greco, met with Agent Eugenio Nardelli of the Pesaro police headquarters and Inspector Mauro Simoncelli of the Pesaro Road Police Unit to commend their off‑duty actions that saved lives.
On 14 July, while on holiday in Porto Cesareo (Lecce province), Agent Nardelli noticed strong currents pulling a woman away from shore. He entered the water and, after about forty minutes, brought her safely back to land.
Two days later, on 16 July in Gabicce Mare, Inspector Simoncelli, although not on duty, responded to a hotel fire, assisting firefighters and helping evacuate guests. His efforts were crucial in rescuing a trapped employee from a locked room.
The Prefect highlighted the courage, promptness and altruism shown by the officers, noting that such actions reinforce public confidence in the Polizia di Stato.
