Italian police recover €12,000 electric motorcycle in Casalgrande

A German tourist's €12,000 electric motorcycle was stolen from a beach resort in Marina di Pietrasanta, Versilia, on 20 July 2026. The rider used a hidden GPS tracker to follow the bike as it travelled north on the A1 highway. Within 24 hours the tracking signal led Carabinieri from the Albinea station to a courtyard in the town of Casalgrande, more than 150 km away.

Police found the motorcycle partially dismantled in an open garage and identified a homeless couple – a 57‑year‑old man and a 50‑year‑old woman – as suspects. Both were charged with aggravated theft. When questioned, the man claimed, “I never left Casalgrande,” a statement contradicted by surveillance footage and vehicle‑movement records that showed the couple’s van travelling to and from the crime scene. The motorcycle was seized and returned to its owner, who is set to take it back to Germany.
