Italian police seize 716 pink meth tablets, 25 kg drugs and arrest 15 in multi‑region crackdown

The Guardia di Finanza, coordinated with the Catania public prosecutor, carried out a nationwide anti‑drug operation that led to 15 arrests in the provinces of Catania, Cosenza, Lecce, Prato, Reggio Calabria, Siracusa and in Malta. The investigation, dubbed “Abisso”, uncovered roughly 25 kg of cocaine, hashish and marijuana, seized assets worth about €700,000 and linked the suspects to the Cappello‑Bonaccorsi mafia clan and the Santa Panagia criminal group. A separate police raid in Catania’s via XXXI Maggio used a drug‑sniffing dog to discover 716 pink methamphetamine tablets, 500 g of marijuana and 500 g of hashish hidden in a garage; the 58‑year‑old owner was arrested for possession with intent to sell.

Both actions illustrate a coordinated effort by Italian authorities to disrupt drug trafficking networks with ties to organized crime, targeting street‑level distribution as well as larger‑scale import operations.
