Baiano, Italy – 18‑Year‑Old Detained with 16 g of Marijuana

During a nighttime patrol in the peripheral area of Baiano, a town in the Avellino province, Carabinieri observed three youths acting suspiciously. The officers stopped and searched them, finding an 18‑year‑old local in possession of about 16 grams of marijuana, already divided into sixteen hand‑rolled cigarettes and hidden in his trouser pocket. The drug was seized and the youth was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and was placed under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of Avellino. The other two young men, also residents of Baiano, attempted to discard two additional joints. They were not arrested but were reported to the Prefecture of Avellino for personal drug use under the relevant Italian drug legislation. The operation is part of the Carabinieri’s ongoing anti‑drug campaign targeting youth in the region.
