Rome police evict anarchist Bencivenga centre after re‑occupation

In the early hours of 13 July, Rome’s Questura carried out a large‑scale operation to clear the Bencivenga social centre, which had been re‑occupied by anarchists during the night of 11–12 July. The raid was supported by armored police units, drones, K‑9 teams and the fire brigade, which removed chains and barriers blocking entry. About 60 occupants left the building voluntarily after mediation by Digos officers and were taken to the Questura for identification. Among those detained were a woman found with a taser and a man subject to an existing arrest warrant; both faced charges for possession of objects intended to cause injury. The premises were subsequently de‑contaminated, secured and handed back to the municipality for future use. The centre had previously been cleared on 15 June, but the occupants managed to force entry again, prompting the renewed police response.
