Italian police step up road safety checks in Sicily and Aosta

Police forces in Italy carried out extraordinary road‑safety operations in two regions. In Sicily, Carabinieri and supporting units inspected 34 vehicles, identified 49 people and fined drivers for violations such as driving without a licence, travelling in the wrong direction and lacking insurance, issuing fines totalling €2,671. A 24‑year‑old was also reported for marijuana possession.

In the Aosta area, a joint task force of the State Police, Guardia di Finanza and local police conducted checks around nightlife venues, identifying about 120 people, 23 of whom had prior police records. One man was ordered to leave the area and faced a charge for driving while intoxicated after being found drunk and in possession of a small amount of a controlled substance. Similar checks focused on preventing fights, theft and other illegal activity and will be repeated in the coming weeks.
