Italian police tighten controls in Venice's Piazza San Marco and Sesto San Giovanni

Local police in Venice have intensified checks around Piazza San Marco to enforce crowd limits, ban loudspeakers and prevent obstruction of pedestrian traffic. On 11 June, two Polish tour guides were fined after their groups of over 50 people violated the regulations; overall, 46 guides and escorts have been penalised this season, with the largest infringing party comprising 80 tourists.

In the Milan‑area town of Sesto San Giovanni, the State Police have stepped up patrols to curb micro‑crime, drug trafficking and irregular immigration. Officers inspected 268 individuals and 31 vehicles, seizing 44 g of drugs and an additional 51.5 g of hashish, confiscating weapons, and detaining several foreign nationals for immigration violations. The operation also led to the arrest of an Italian citizen on stalking charges.
