Italian political debate focuses on migration and security

The Italian political talk show ‘Dritto e Rovescio’ has featured intense debates regarding immigration and national security. During a recent episode, Daniele Capezzone, director of ‘Il Tempo’, addressed migration flows, noting an 80% decrease in illegal landings over the past two years as a significant achievement for the current government.

Capezzone highlighted the importance of the new European regulation on repatriations. He credited Prime Minister Meloni and Interior Minister Piantedosi for securing a victory in Europe regarding the reform of the EU Migration and Asylum Pact. This reform introduces a common list of ‘safe third countries’ and accelerated procedures for returning irregular migrants, including the potential establishment of repatriation centers in non-EU countries.

Other discussions on the program have included interviews with Senate President Ignazio La Russa regarding the international political landscape, such as the AfD victory in Germany, as well as domestic security concerns following recent incidents in Rome and Turin.
