Italian political groups mobilize against far-right rallies

Political groups and associations across Italy are mobilizing to oppose planned gatherings by far-right and neofascist organizations.

In Ortona, the Sinistra Italiana and AVS parties have expressed support for a peaceful anti-fascist demonstration organized by ANPI. This mobilization follows an announcement of an event by an extreme-right group at the Sala Eden. Local activists are calling on Mayor Angelo Di Nardo to revoke the venue's concession, arguing that defending democratic values and the memory of the city's resistance during World War II is essential to countering authoritarian ideas.

In the province of Verona, the 'Comitato unitario veronese Difesa della Costituzione'—a coalition of over fifty associations, unions, and political forces—has issued a formal appeal to the Prefect. The committee is seeking to block a national rally organized by Casapound Italia scheduled for September 10–13 in Cadidavid. The group characterizes the rally, which includes nazi-rock concerts, as an initiative rooted in nationalism and xenophobia. They are requesting the strict application of the Scelba and Mancino laws to prevent propaganda that violates constitutional principles of equality and human dignity.
